Swim Testing:
The Lifeguard Staff reserves the right to swim test any individual of questionable or unknown swimming ability.

The swim test is:
  • 15 yards
  • must be swam in a recognizable over arm stroke
  • must be swam without stopping or aid

Swimmers that pass will be given one of the following:

Green arm band - unrestricted access
Red arm band - restricted to  5’ or less
Lifejacket - restricted to shallow end and must have a parent in the water

ALL pool party and special event participants will be swim tested.  Swimmers from the general YMCA membership will be swim tested as needed.

The following guidelines have been established for your health and safety in our swimming pools:

All swimmers 9 and under must be accompanied in the pool area at all times by a responsible person at least 18 years of age.

Any child 10-12, who cannot pass the swim test, must have a responsible adult in the water or on the pool deck supervising.

Any child 10-12 that can pass the swim test can be in the pool without a supervising adult (however, the adult must be in the facility).

It is our policy to allow exceptions to the pool schedule, i.e., a recreational swimmer during a water aerobics period, etc. This is, however, only at the judgment of the Lifeguard.

Please wear swimsuits appropriate for a family environment. Cut offs and street clothes will not be allowed. Individuals who feel more comfortable swimming in a shirt may do so provided the shirt is clean and worn over a swimsuit.

Parents should be in the pool with children in floatation devices. Any swimmer needing flotation devices outside of a class or fitness environment must stay in the shallow end of the pool unless accompanied by a parent in the deep end.

The Lifeguard staff reserves the right to swim test any individual wishing to swim in the deep end of the pool. This test will be approximately 15 yards in length, which must be completed without aid or stopping. Individuals who do not pass this test will not be allowed access to the deep end of the pool.

Lap lanes are reserved for lap swimming and water fitness. Please do not play or lounge in these areas. We ask that lap swimmers be courteous of others by allowing circle swimming in lanes.

Disability access is available upon request. Reasonable accommodations will be made in order to allow an individual with a disability to make use of the facility. Staff may request those with a severe disability be accompanied by a helper.

Starting blocks may only be used under the supervision of our YMCA Instructor Staff.

When the whistle blows, look to the lifeguard for directions.

***The swimming pool at both facilities closes 15 minutes prior to the posted building hours.  This allows members time to shower, change and be out of the building on time.
