Lifeguard and WSI PDF Print E-mail
Lifeguard Training
Members $150, Non-Members $175

This course provides the necessary skills and knowledge for an entry level position as a lifeguard. Enrollment in this course does not guarantee certification or employment.

Prerequisites for Lifeguard Training
  • Must be at least 15 years old
  • Swim 300 yards using proper form in freestyle and breaststroke
  • Swim 20 yards, retrieve and return a 10 lb. object in 1 minute 40 seconds
WSI Courses
Members $150, Non-Members $175

The WSI course provides the student with the necessary knowledge and materials to teach and administer the American Red Cross learn to swim program. Due to material and instructor commitments, refunds will not be issued for this course. All books and training materials are included in the course fees.

Prerequisites for WSI Courses
  • Must be at least 16 years old
  • Be able to swim freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke, sidestroke and butterfly for at least 15 yards.
  • Be able to tread water for 2 minutes.

General Information

Attendance
Dailey attendance of all classes is mandatory for certification.

Change of Clothes
It is highly encouraged that you bring at least two changes of clothes per day. The instructor will notify you of any days that will be classroom only.

Lunch
A lunch break will be provided for days with class times exceeding 4 hours. Lunch is not provided by the YMCA.

Goggles
For Lifeguard students, the use of goggles is allowed for the initial 300 yard swim and all conditioning swimming. For WSI candidates, goggles are allowed during a majority of the course.

Class Fees
All fees must be paid at registration. Class spaces will not be held without payment and a completed registration form.

Registration Forms
A registration form must be completed at sign up. This form must be completed in full, including any needed signatures.

Class Sizes
Classes without a minimum of six participants will be cancelled and rescheduled. Programs may not exceed the maximum number of participants.

Refunds
Refunds for aquatics programs are only available if the course does not make and the request is made 7 business days prior to the course. A $50 fee will be held from all Lifeguard and WSI course refunds.
